Afro-Manding artist Nyancho has travelled to the United Kingdom, a day after releasing his controversial new song Wulolu, which criticises the leadership of President Adama Barrow and alleges failures in tackling corruption.

The Bakau-born singer, who released the song while in Senegal, accuses the Barrow administration of failing to deliver on promises made to Gambians and calls on the president not to seek another term in office.

In recent media interviews, Nyancho urged President Barrow to relinquish power, arguing that the country needs a change in leadership.

The song, whose title Wulolu translates from Mandinka as liars, has generated widespread debate on social media.

While many supporters have praised the artist for speaking out against corruption, others, particularly supporters of the president, have criticised the song as disrespectful.

A day after the release, Nyancho announced that he had arrived safely in the United Kingdom, a move that has fuelled speculation among some of his fans about the timing of his departure.

Sharing the update on social media, he wrote: “UK I’m here and I’m safe. Thank you God, and thank you to my fans for holding me down. Keep streaming #WULOLU — this one’s for you.”

His departure comes as Wulolu continues to attract significant online attention, with the politically charged song becoming one of the most discussed releases by a Gambian artist in recent months.
