A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread anger in The Gambia after a woman allegedly attempted to solicit a young woman for an unnamed man.

The woman, suspected by some users to be Nigerian, posted a video in which she called on people to send her contacts of a “beautiful girl” from Farafenni, prompting backlash and concern.

In the footage, she said: “I am in Senegambia right now, but a man from Farafenni needs a lady… if you are shy to comment, just send me a message.”

She goes on to describe the kind of person being sought, adding: “He wants a girl from Farafenni… a tall lady, nice skin… a clean one.”

The remarks quickly drew condemnation online, with many Gambians expressing alarm over what they see as an attempt to exploit young women.

Social media users have called on authorities to investigate the matter and take action against individuals involved in what they describe as the commodification of women.

“This is unacceptable and must not be tolerated,” one commenter wrote, echoing a wider public outcry.

Critics said such behaviour risks undermining the country’s social and moral values, with some warning it could damage The Gambia’s reputation as a conservative and religious society.

There has been no official response yet from authorities.

The incident has reignited debate about online conduct, exploitation, and the need for stronger oversight of content shared on social media platforms.
