Pa Modou Mbowe, a prominent member of the opposition Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), has called for a united opposition front to unseat President Adama Barrow in the next presidential election.
Citing widespread hardship faced by Gambians, Mbowe argued that no single political party could succeed in removing Barrow from power.
Mbowe, known for his fiery rhetoric, claimed that only exiled former President Yahya Jammeh could single handedly defeat Barrow in an election.
“There is no one party that can unseat Adama Barrow except President Jammeh. He’s the only man who can unseat Adama Barrow in this country. Even if he paints his box, he will win,” Mbowe stated, referencing Jammeh’s enduring influence among some Gambians.
He also criticised past attempts by opposition parties to challenge Barrow’s presidency, saying, “They tried it here in 2021, and they all failed.”
Mbowe urged APRC’s “No To Alliance” faction to collaborate with other opposition parties, including the United Democratic Party (UDP), the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), the People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS), and independent candidates like Essa Mbye Faal.
“APRC should form an alliance with UDP and bring all other parties on board to remove Adama Barrow from power in the upcoming presidential election. This is the solution, and I will continue advocating for this campaign,” he declared.
The call for a coalition comes amidst mounting political discontent in the country, with critics accusing President Barrow’s administration of failing to address economic challenges and rising inequality.
