Veteran interpreter Pa Sainey Jallow has revealed that a marabout once prophesied that opposition leader Ousainou Darboe would never become president.
Speaking to Gambiana on Tuesday, Jallow said the prophecy dates back to 2001, during a nationwide trip he and the late Wajura undertook to seek blessings for Darboe’s political future.
“We travelled across the country seeking prayers for Ousainou Darboe. At one point, we visited a renowned marabout, whom I will not name for secrecy. He told us to relax because Ousainou will never be a president. He added that even Ousainou himself knows this, as the marabout had foreseen his future,” Jallow recounted.
He also reflected on the political events of 2016, claiming that the coalition which led to former President Adama Barrow’s rise would not have occurred had Darboe not been imprisoned.
He argued that the only mistake by then-President Yahya Jammeh was detaining Darboe, which ultimately reshaped the country’s political landscape.
Jallow’s comments shed light on long-held beliefs and predictions surrounding Darboe, who has been a central figure in Gambian politics for decades. The revelation adds a spiritual dimension to discussions about the opposition leader’s political journey and the circumstances that influenced the formation of alliances in 2016.
While some may dismiss prophecies as mere superstition, Jallow maintains that such warnings hold significance, particularly in Gambian society, where spiritual guidance often intersects with political life.
