Senegalese television presenter Pape Cheikh Diallo will remain in custody after an investigating judge rejected his request for provisional release.

According to Les Échos, Diallo, through his lawyers, had applied for bail while the case was being finalised and submitted to the prosecutor for his recommendations.

The judge has since issued a final order sending some of the accused, including Diallo, to trial over allegations of acts against nature and criminal association.

The case reportedly involves around 100 people. While some defendants were granted a dismissal for insufficient evidence, others were released because the prosecution was deemed time-barred.

The prosecutor has appealed the investigating judge’s order.

Diallo has been in detention since February, and the latest ruling means he will remain behind bars pending further proceedings.
