The National Assembly has passed the Public Pension Bill 2022 as the government seeks to reform the pension system. 

The bill replaced the colonial-era Pension Act of 1950

Vice President Dr Isatou Touray said the new pension regime will benefit thousand of workers and retirees.

“I believe this will play a positive role in building and the improvement of employees and in particular the pensioners of The Gambia to boost their financial status and fair retirement package,” she said.

She also acknowledged the efforts of the Personnel Management Office (PMO) and other relevant institutions in making the legislative approval process of the Bill a success.

Dr Touray praised the Barrow government for introducing the bill and for taking steps to bettering the economic conditions of workers.
