The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has appointed former France international and Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira as the new head coach of the Senegal national team.

The federation confirmed the appointment through its official social media platforms on Tuesday, announcing Vieira as the successor to the Teranga Lions’ previous head coach.

“Mr. Patrick Vieira is the new coach of the Senegal national team A. The date of the official presentation and the next steps in his installation will be communicated later,” the FSF announced.

Vieira, 50, brings vast experience from both his playing and coaching career. The former midfielder captained Arsenal and France, winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000 with Les Bleus.

Patrick Vieira has also managed several clubs, including New York City FC, Crystal Palace, OGC Nice and Strasbourg.
