Veteran broadcaster Peter Gomez and Information Minister Dr Ismaila Ceesay were involved in a heated exchange during a live broadcast of West Coast Coffee Time, amid growing concerns over government transparency regarding official overseas travel.

The confrontation began after Mr Gomez criticised the lack of public announcements concerning ministers’ foreign trips, stating that such information was routinely shared with media houses in the past.

“In the past, ministers would send press releases to media outlets weeks in advance,” Mr Gomez said. “The Minister of Information is reportedly travelling to Guinea-Bissau, but that has not been communicated to the public.”

Dr Ceesay challenged the claim, responding: “I have never seen that before, Peter, not even during the Yahya Jammeh era.”

Mr Gomez, who has worked in journalism for four decades, insisted on the accuracy of his statement: “You don’t tell me what happens in my domain. I tell you what happens in my domain. I’ve been doing this job for 40 years. You can verify this with Pap Saine or any senior journalist.”
