The Gambia High Commissioner in London has announced the passing of the husband of the country’s High Commissioner.

Philip Bensouda passed away on Thursday 3 April in London. He was married to Fatou Bensouda, who is also the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.

In a statement, the High Commission described Mr. Bensouda as “a strong pillar” in Dr. Bensouda’s career, supporting her “from her time as a young lawyer” to her roles as Gambia’s Attorney General and Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. “He was a friend, husband, and confidant,” the statement added.

Deputy Head of Mission Sulayman Suntou Touray confirmed that the news has been relayed to President Adama Barrow, Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara, Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, and the Bensouda family.
