The Gambian Police have arrested a man suspected of aiding armed robbers who raided a Mauritanian shop in Banjul on Saturday.

The gang stormed the shop, brandishing firearms and holding staff at gunpoint before fleeing with more than one million dalasis.

Police launched a swift manhunt, leading to the interception of an unregistered vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery.

Speaking to Gambiana, police spokesperson Cadet ASP Momodou Musa Sisawo confirmed the arrest.

“Our officers intercepted a vehicle suspected to have been used by the armed robbers. The driver is currently in custody, assisting with our investigation,” he said.

The police have not disclosed further details as investigations continue.
