The Police Anti-Crime Unit in Brufut has arrested Lamin Sawo, a 38-year-old Gambian businessman residing in Salagi, for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Sawo was taken into custody on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, after an informant reported gunshots and threatening behaviour at his residence.

When officers arrived, they discovered empty cartridges and recovered a 9mm Walther pistol (serial number BC23169595) loaded with nine rounds of ammunition — five used and four unused — inside his room.

The suspect admitted ownership of the weapon but denied firing it, claiming he found the pistol hidden and decided to keep it for personal use.

He remains in custody while investigations continue.
