The Gambia Police Force has confirmed that 14 members of the GALA organisation have been charged for alleged unlawful assembly following an incident at the Westfield Monument on Friday, 8 May 2026.
According to a police statement, the individuals were accused of holding a gathering without obtaining a police permit.

Police said the suspects were granted bail conditions requiring one Gambian surety and a bail bond of D50,000.
However, the individuals reportedly declined the conditions and instead requested unconditional self-bail while expressing their preference for the matter to proceed before the courts.
The Police subsequently charged them with unlawful assembly under Section 63 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025, and common nuisance under Section 137(1) of the same Act.
In its statement, the Gambia Police Force urged members of the public to comply with laws and procedures governing public assemblies in order to maintain public order and safety.
