Inspector General of Police

Police have denied protest permit to the anti-Barrow political group 3 Years Jotna citing “national security and public safety concerns”.

In a press release the Office of the Inspector General of Police said the decision not to grant protest permit to ‘Operation 3 Years Jotna Movement’ was made “following meticulous security assessment, monitoring and intelligence gathering”.

“The Office of the Inspector General of Police acting in accordance with Section 178 of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, will continue to deliver on its mandate of protecting life and properties as well as maintaining law and order.

“The public is assured of the highest sense of security, peace and tranquility at all times.”

The protest group was scheduled to hold a protest rally on January 20 to renew its call for President Barrow to honour his 2016 election promise to step down after three years in office.
