Police have dismissed reports that the Guinean national suspected of killing a businesswoman in Tanji had escaped.
Unconfirmed reports have been making round on social media on Wednesday claiming that the suspect had fled from his custody.
The reports had angered many of the residents of the fishing village who protested the killing yesterday.
Police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie told Gambiana the reports were untrue.
“He (the suspect) is in custody, charged with murder contrary to laws of the Gambia.”
The unnamed businesswoman, who was known to the suspect, went missing on Sunday after visiting the shopkeeper to collect cash she has deposited with him.
