Police have stepped up their manhunt for eight prisoners who escaped from Mile Two Central Prison in September.
Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Prison Services Superintendent Momodou Lamin Ceesay said “efforts are still ongoing to make sure we recapture the escaped prisoners.
“We are working with our sister services for support in security, especially the Anti-Crime Unit and we are hopeful to make headway as all of them are Gambians.”
According to the Prison PRO, the fugitives are facing charges for various offences including murder, drug trafficking and conspiracy to commit felony.
The escapees were recently remanded at the Mile Two Central Prison while awaiting trials.
He said they are reviewing security at the prison.
“We are currently reinforcing the metals at the ventilation holes in the Remand Wing which was two layers now making it three layers to avoid such happening in the long run.”
Superintendent Ceesay called on the public to support them with relevant information about the escapees.
