Police in the West Coast Region are investigating an alleged assault causing actual bodily harm following an incident in Pirang that left a 35-year-old woman injured.

According to preliminary police findings, the woman suffered a forehead injury after she was allegedly struck with a wooden bench during an altercation involving her uncle.

The incident was reported at Mandinaba Police Station, where the victim arrived with visible injuries. Officers recovered the wooden bench believed to have been used in the alleged assault as evidence.

Police said the suspect was arrested, cautioned and charged. He denied the allegation, but investigators have completed a case file and forwarded it for further action.

He has since been granted police bail pending the legal process.

The Gambia Police Force has urged the public to resolve family and domestic disputes peacefully and through lawful means, stressing that violence against any person is a criminal offence and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
