Police have launched an investigation into the case of a 16-year-old girl in Kotu, Mariama Sanyang, who was alleged to have committed suicide on Wednesday following a dispute with her father. 

It was alleged that the teenager committed suicide over alledged abused by her father. 

Police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie told Gambiana that the teenager drank an insecticide poison following a dispute. 

“We can confirm a suicide incident involving a 16-year-old girl. This came following a domestic dispute which left the girl angry then resorted to drinking an insecticide (sniper insecticide),” police spokesman Lamin Njie said.

He added: “She developed stomach complications and was rushed to the Kanifing hospital where she passed away. The family is helping the Police in their investigations.”
