
A police officer has died following a road traffic accident along the Jammeh Kunda–Salikenni highway while on official escort duties, the Gambia Police Force (GPF) has confirmed.
In a statement, the GPF said Police Constable Lamin Badjie, service number 9088, attached to the Kerewan Police Intervention Unit (PIU), succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
According to preliminary reports, the police vehicle, registration number GPF 17 PIU, collided with a cow that suddenly crossed the highway, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
PC Badjie suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Kerewan Health Centre for treatment. However, he later died from his injuries.

The police said other officers involved in the accident sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The Office of the Inspector General of Police and the Police High Command expressed condolences to the family, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officer.
“The Gambia Police Force regrets to announce that Police Constable 9088 Lamin Badjie of Kerewan PIU has died following a road traffic accident while on escort duties,” the statement said.
The police added that details regarding the funeral arrangements will be communicated at a later date.
