The Gambia Police Force has launched an investigation into an alleged murder in Dongoroba Village, following the discovery of the body of Biran Jallow, who is believed to have been shot and buried by suspect Bubacar Dem.

A joint team from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Pathology Department of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), the Police Intervention Unit, and other security services carried out the operation on Sunday, 24 August 2025.

Police said Dem led investigators to his rice field, where he admitted burying Jallow. In the presence of relatives, the grave was exhumed, and the body was formally identified by the victim’s father and brother.

A post-mortem conducted at the scene revealed multiple gunshot wounds, with 29 pellets recovered from the body. The cause of death was determined to be massive internal bleeding resulting from close-range gunshot injuries.

The remains have since been handed over to the family for burial. Investigators confirmed that exhibits were secured and a case file has been opened.

The police assured the public of their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring justice is delivered.
