Police in the Upper River Region have rescued a newborn following a reported baby dumping incident in Fatato.

According to the Police , officers from Fatato Police Station responded swiftly after receiving information about a 20-year-old woman suspected of abandoning her newborn shortly after delivery.

The report stated that upon receiving the alert, police officers immediately proceeded to the scene.

With the assistance of members of the community, the officers were able to locate and rescue the baby alive, preventing what could have resulted in a tragic loss of life.

Following the rescue, both the mother and the newborn were urgently transported to Fatoto Health Centre for initial medical attention.

Due to the condition of both individuals, they were later referred to Basse Main Hospital for further examination and specialised care.

Police confirmed that both the mother and child are currently responding positively to treatment, although their conditions continue to be monitored by medical personnel.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the alleged act.

The police have not yet disclosed further details, indicating that inquiries are still ongoing.
