A policeman is accused of assaulting and ‘breaking’ the hand of a farmer over documentation of a motorbike, Gambiana has been informed.
A source who spoke to Gambiana and provided footage of the incident said: “a Police Officer at Brikamaba Police Station broke the hand of a poor farmer from Boiram, who was on his way to clear his farm between Sareh Yembeh and Kerewan France.”
The source added: “the police officer asked for his license and he responded that he left his license at home and the policeman insisted.
“The boy however requested that he can go to the village and collect it and requested for the police officer to ride the bike so they can go to the village together so he can show him the license, but with all these proposals, the police officer insisted and wanted to seize the key of the bike.
“During the encounter, the police officer twisted the poor farmer’s hand and broke it. He was then taken to BrikamaBa Health Centre, who further referred him to Bansang Hospital for further and better medical care.”
However, the source said: “The Police team yesterday visited Boiram and condemned the act in totality and apologised to the family.”
The Gambia Police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie was contacted for comment.
