For
the first time, Muslim and Christian leaders in Gambia and Senegal will share a
common platform at an inter-country level to discuss religious commonalities in a conference dubbed
‘Senegalo-Gambia Convergence’.
The maiden interfaith conference is slated for 11 May 2019 at Pencha Mi Hall, Paradise Suites Hotel in
Kololi. The conference is designed to further strengthen the religious
tolerance, peaceful and harmonious co-existence between Muslims and Christians in the two countries.
The event is being organised by Hijaz Islamic
Organisation in cooperation with the governments of The Gambia and Senegal on the Theme ‘Promoting social and
cultural relations of Gambia and Senegal through religious dialogue’.
Sheikh Ahmad Tijani Cisse, a Senegalese Imam, and Rev Father Anthony Gabisi, a Gambian Roman Catholic priest
will discuss the importance of peace and religious tolerance.
Senegalo-Gambia Convergence will be attended by senior government officials of The Gambia and Senegal
as well as thousands of people from all walks of life, different Islamic sects
and Christian denominations from both countries.
The organiser, Hijaz Islamic Organisation, is founded in January 2007
by young people from The Gambia and Senegal to foster good relations between
the people of two countries with the objective of promoting social cohesion and
helping the poor and the needy.
