President Adama Barrow has congratulated Ousainou Darboe on his election as the United Democratic Party (UDP) flagbearer for the 2026 presidential election.
In a message, President Barrow, who is also the Secretary General and Party Leader of the National People’s Party (NPP), described Darboe’s victory as a clear indication of the trust and confidence UDP delegates and members continue to place in his leadership.
He reaffirmed his belief that the strength of Gambian democracy rests on “political pluralism, tolerance and mutual respect among all political actors,” adding that the NPP remains committed to working with the UDP and other stakeholders to safeguard and advance democratic gains.
President Barrow also commended the UDP leadership and delegates for what he called the “orderly conduct” of their selection process, describing it as a milestone in the consolidation of the country’s democratic culture.
He expressed hope that the exercise would strengthen national unity and support the pursuit of peace, stability and sustainable development.
