President Adama Barrow has congratulated the United Democratic Party (UDP) following their victory in the Massembeh Ward by-election on Sunday.

In a statement, President Barrow, who also serves as NPP Secretary General and Party Leader, lauded the UDP for retaining their councillorship seat in the by-election. He acknowledged the trust and confidence placed in the UDP by the people of Massembeh Ward, which he described as a testament to the party’s leadership.

He emphasised the NPP’s unwavering commitment to strengthening political pluralism in The Gambia, highlighting the importance of a vibrant multi-party democracy for the nation’s growth and development.

He also commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the by-election, which he said marks significant progress in the consolidation of democratic processes in the country.

“We are dedicated to building a Gambia that reflects the principles of the rule of law, fundamental human rights, and civil liberties. The NPP remains resolute in ensuring that every citizen can enjoy these basic rights without hindrance,” he said. 

The president also took the opportunity to commend the people of Massembeh Ward, particularly the NPP’s candidate, his family, and supporters, for their disciplined and active participation in the election process. He called their engagement a valuable lesson in democracy.

He expressed a desire for continued collaboration with the UDP and all political parties, reinforcing the shared goal of building a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive Gambia.
