President Adama Barrow

The Gambian President Adama Barrow may appoint a new Vice President on Friday, a source close to the presidency told Gambiana.

The new appointee will fill the vacant position after the death of the vice president Dr Alieu Badara Joof in India last week. He was 66.

However, rumours are swirling about the potential candidates as the president searched for a competent Gambian to fill the vacant position.

The late Badara Joof was highly respected for his intelligence and competence.

He was laid to rest on Monday in Banjulinding after a state funeral.

The president awarded the late VP a posthumous award for his public service.

He was honoured with the Master of the Grand Commander of the Order of The Republic of The Gambia (GCRC), The Gambia’s highest civilian award.
