President Adama Barrow has broken his silence on the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, condemning recent Israeli attacks and calling on both nations to de-escalate and pursue peace.

Speaking during his State of the Nation Address, Barrow—who also serves as Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)—expressed deep concern over the rising violence, which has claimed the lives of both military personnel and civilians.

“As Chairman of the OIC, I express grave concern over the recent escalation of Israeli attacks on Iran, resulting in the deaths of both military and non-military officials,” Barrow said. “I call for restraint and a return to peace in the region.”

The president’s remarks follow mounting criticism over his silence since the conflict began. His statement marks the first official response from the OIC chair on the matter.

“Dialogue is the ultimate solution to our global concerns,” he added. “We must strive to resolve disputes through peaceful means.”
