Pro-Gambia, a civil society organisation, has started a nationwide tour to promote peaceful coexistence and harmony.

The group’s Vice President Fatou Fatty said at a press conference at Sinchu Baliya that they were aiming at promoting peace through dialogue.

“We wish to inform and educate the public on how we can all come together and promote peace and give peace a chance to ensuring stability and security,” she said.

Mrs. Fatty called for the encouragement of dialogue in the country saying “because of dialogue we have resolved many unwanted problems in the country and we are calling on stakeholders to give support to this initiative and not to wait until the country is in flame (before they) act.”

Ensa ‘Jesus’ Jatta, secretary general of Pro-Gambia, said they were planning to hold a national day for dialogue after the tour.

“We will have all the political leaders, security forces, pressure groups, religious leaders, civil society organisations (together in one place) for us to dialogue and see how best we can safeguard the peace and security of the country.”

Pro-Gambia was formed after the political impasse in 2017 to promote peace and unity through dialogue among political leaders, youth, community and pressure groups. It’s principal target is the youth, who they described as “vulnerable to the ploy of political actors during crisis”.

The group has recently held engagement with various political leaders including the Interior minister on the 2016 Coalition’s controversial MOU and the pressure group 3-Years Jotna.
