The Public Utilities Regulatory Authourity (PURA) has fined one Dekorey Ceesay D300,000 for constructing a fuel station in Brufut without a permit.

PURA in a statement said that “following routine monitoring, it found Dekorey Ceesay, a service provider constructing a fuel station in Brufut for the purpose of carrying out petroleum supply operations

without a licence.”

The regulatory body said the construction was illegal and therefore fined Mr Ceesay

D300,000 to be “payable within fourteen days from the 10th of May 2021.”

PURA also ordered Mr Ceesay to stop all construction activities at his petrol station in Brufut.

According to the PURA, Mr Ceesay was earlier denied permit for the construction of the fuel station in a letter dated 10th June 2020. He was informed that the Minister for Petroleum and Energy had refused his application.

The regulatory body said anyone operating in the petroleum sector should comply with the law and urged those without licenses to apply for permits.

This is the second time PURA has issued a fine to a petroleum company for operating without a licence.

Jah Oil was fined D1 million several months ago for also “illegally constructing” a fuel station on Kairaba Avenue. The company denied any wrongdoing but paid the fine.
