Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in The Gambia have received a boost in their drive for independence following a three-day nationwide training on skills development, technology, and entrepreneurship.
Organised by the National Advisory Council for Persons with Disabilities (NACPWD) with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare and partners, the programme ran from 16–18 March 2026 across Kanifing and regional centres, including Mansakonko.

The initiative supports implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act 2021 and aligns with global commitments on disability rights, particularly access to employment.
Officials stressed that vocational training and entrepreneurship are key to reducing dependency and promoting dignified livelihoods.

Principal Social Welfare Officer Modou Suwareh urged participants to apply the skills gained, while NACPWD Chairman Muhammed Krubally highlighted inclusion and self-reliance.
Director of Social Welfare Alaye Barra noted persistent barriers to education and jobs for PWDs, adding that technology can help bridge these gaps.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Delo Bah reaffirmed government commitment to disability inclusion.
The training covered business management, digital marketing, and vocational skills, with facilitators offering ongoing advisory support.

Participants welcomed the programme, expressing optimism about starting or expanding businesses.
Stakeholders called for continued support, improved accessibility to digital information, and greater access to funding and assistive technologies.
