Thirty-seven youths including rapper Killa Ace have been remanded at Mile Two Prison for their alleged involvement in last month rioting in Greater Banjul Area.

Killa Ace, whose real name is Alieu Cham, and 36 other youths were rearrested after their release last week following a public outcry and accusations of police heavy handedness.

They have been accused of being behind the violence in last month’s rioting by vendors at the Serekunda market following the death of a vendor, Ousman Darboe, who died after an alleged incident with the police.

A protest calling for justice for the late Ousman Darboe turned violent leading to the destruction of properties including an arson attack on the house of the Anti-Crime boss, Gorgi Mboob in Ebo Town.

The charges against them include arson, unlawful assembly, wilful damage to properties and other public order offences.

The youths having been reporting to the Tallinding Police Station as part of their bail conditions.

However, they were rearrested on Tuesday and remanded at the Mile Two.

The police spokesman, ASP Lamin Njie, told Gambiana that:” the case was at the court…like i understand they are being remanded”.

He didn’t provide details as to why they rearrested a week after being granted bail.
