The battle for survival in the 2025/26 Gambia Football Federation First Division delivered late twists and heartbreak as the final standings confirmed the teams dropping out of the top flight.

Steve Biko FC’s defeat to Fortune FC on the final day proved costly as they finished bottom of the table with 30 points, confirming their relegation to the second tier.

Samger FC also saw their fight for survival come to an end despite earning a point against Hawks FC. Their total of 32 points was not enough to escape the drop zone as they finished 15th and suffered relegation.

TMT FC, however, produced one of the stories of the final day. Their crucial 2-1 victory over Team Rhino FC helped them climb to 33 points and complete a dramatic late escape from automatic relegation. Although they avoided finishing in the bottom two, TMT’s season is still not over, as they finished in the relegation playoff spot and must now battle for their place in the division.

Elsewhere, Greater Tomorrow FC also secured survival after a vital 3-2 victory over Real De Banjul, while Hawks FC narrowly avoided being dragged deeper into the battle.

For Steve Biko and Samger, the season ends in disappointment. For TMT FC, hope remains alive through the playoffs.
