Mabara Gajaga, a robbery suspect in Essau, is on the run after he was released on bail pending court hearings.

Gajaga, a resident of Medina Kanuma in Lower Nuimi, was arrested last week after he was accused of breaking into the house of Yankuba Manneh, a communications officer at the Gambia Ports Authority.

Mr Manneh said he was disappointed that the accused had jumped bail.

“Released on bail yesterday after 72 hours in detention, the accused person has jumped the bail and his whereabouts is unknown.

“Presiding Magistrate Sowe of Barra Magistrate Court immediately issued an arrest warrant and detention of the accused person until the case is ruled. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday 19th May, 2021,” Yankuba Manneh told Gambiana.

He added: “What really intrigues me is the fact that the accused person was said to have reported to the police station this morning but refused to appear before the court at noon for hearing.

“Could this failure be attributed to the police, for not arresting the suspect knowing he is due to court in just few hours’ time?

“In desperation, we (the plaintiffs) wonder if justice will really take its rightful course in this case or it will just vanish into thin air like others.”
