The people of Rochdale, in the north of England, felicitate with the Nigerian community in the town on the occasion of their 59th Independence Day.
During a flag-raising event at the town hall this morning, the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Billy Sheerin said the Rochdale Council is proud to associate itself with the Nigerian community, and wish them a very fruitful day ahead.
Former Mayor of Rochdale, Mohammed Zaman, said Independence Day is a great occasion for all Nigerian communities around the globe, especially in Rochdale, and conveyed his best wishes “to all our Nigerian brothers, sisters, and young people on this joyous day”.
The Chairperson of the Nigeria Community Association in Rochdale, Mary Adekugbe, said today’s occasion is of pride and joy for all Nigerians. She urged Nigerians in the diaspora to come together and work for the progress of the country.
She expressed her gratitude to the Rochdale Council for their continuous support for the community, and the tireless effort to make Rochdale a diverse and multicultural borough.
Tayo Mustafa, a member of the Nigerian Community, expressed optimism about Nigeria and hope today’s independence would usher in a better and prosperous nation.
