Rohey Malick Lowe has revealed the reason for her recent absence from the party’s executive meetings, saying it is due to the party’s continued silence in condemning insults directed at her by fellow party members.
Ms Lowe, the mayor of Banjul and second vice president of the United Democratic Party, accused UDP member Mark Janneh of repeatedly insulting her over the years. She said the party leadership should have condemned and addressed his behaviour.
“I was accused by Mark Janneh of leaking UDP’s secrets to Adama Barrow,” she told Eye Africa, adding, “They have insulted me in a WhatsApp group where my husband is a member.”
She added: “This is why I stopped attending UDP executive meetings. And even since I stopped attending, I still hear NPP talking about UDP issues. I know all those asking Mark Janneh to attack me.”
Ms Lowe also revealed that the personal attacks and accusations, including claims of infidelity, have affected her marriage.
“I nearly got divorced in my marriage, and I told my husband that those lying against me have their wives at home. With all these lies against me, the party is still silent. That’s why I also held myself back and decided to take a backseat in party affairs,” she added.
