Magistrate Omar Jabang has remanded Sainabou Mbye, her brother Cherno Mbye and another man Kibili Dambelly at Mile 2 prison.

The trio have been charged with manslaughter over the death of baby Muhammed. 

Magistrate Jabang told a packed court today (26 July) that the magistrates’ court did not have the power to hear a capital offence.

Ms Mbye was extradited from Dakar to Banjul last week over the death of baby Muhammed who is at the centre of her ex-husband, Bubacarr Keita’s rape trial.

Ms Mbye’s younger sister accused Bob Keita of raping her in 2019 which resulted in a pregnancy. Mr Keita denies the charge.

Both Keita and Ms Mbye are all remanded at the state central prison, Mile 2.

The case is now transferred to the high court in Banjul.
