Sana Manjang has revealed that he snubbed Essa Faal’s request to testify against his former boss, ex-president Yahya Jammeh at the TRRC.

Manjang, one of the country’s most wanted man, made the revelation today in an audio widely shared on social media platforms.

He alleged that Faal, who at the time of the request was the lead counsel of The Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), contacted him via a text message to get him to testify against Jammeh.

“I ignored his text and he called me the  following day. I kept quite for sometimes because I wanted to record him. But he quickly realised that and hung up the call. But I am still with his text which I want to keep as evidence,” Manjang said in the audio.

Manjang was among dozens of soldiers and guards of Jammeh who fled the country in 2017 after Ecowas intervention forces entered the country following an election impasse.

He was also a member of the paramilitary group, The Junglers, accused of serious human rights violations including extrajudicial killings of opponents of ex-president Jammeh.

He is described as the henchman of the group and one of the most brutal member of the Junglers.

He is reported to be in hiding in Guinea Bissau.

In the YouTube audio branded soldiers who testified against him and Jammeh at the TRRC as “loud mouth and coward” men in uniform.

Meanwhile, the Gambia government is planning ahead with the support of regional bloc Ecowas to establish a hybrid court to try Jammeh and his associates including Sana Manjang for alleged human rights violations during the Jammeh dictatorship.
