The highly anticipated Satayba derby lived up to expectations as Greater Tomorrow held Brikama United to a 1-1 draw in a thrilling encounter.
Brikama United took the lead early in the first half through Ismaila Simon Fatty, who coolly converted from the penalty spot. The spot-kick was won by Brikama’s debutant, Sulayman Jammeh after he outpaced Greater Tomorrow’s right-back Sanna Camara, who brought him down inside the box.
Greater Tomorrow responded before the break. Former Brikama United marauding star Bully Drammeh delivered a brilliant through ball to Paul Colley, who rounded the Brikama keeper and slotted home the equalizer to restore parity.
Brikama United came out stronger in the second half, making key substitutions that shifted the momentum in their favour.
Alieu Kwesi Jr. came close to restoring Brikama’s lead with a spectacular curling effort that struck the crossbar. Lamin Sibi Jatta also had three chances to win it for Brikama but was denied on each occasion by Greater Tomorrow’s resilient defense.
Elsewhere in the League:
Bakary Jatta was the star of the show as he netted a brace to help BST Galaxy end their eight-match winless run with a convincing 3-1 victory over Hawks FC. Pa Modou Sohna marked his return to the Gambian top flight in style, also getting on the scoresheet for Galaxy.
In another match, Lamin Kanteh’s lone goal was enough to hand Falcons a narrow 1-0 win over Steve Biko.
