Ebrima Sohna who plays as midfielder for The Gambia’s national football team, the Scorpions, has announced his retirement from international football.

Sohna made a single appearance in the just concluded AFCON tournament for The Gambia where the team made an impressive debut.

“Today, I officially announce my retirement from the national team to pave the way for the younger generation to succeed.

“I have great desire and impassioned inclination to serve in a different capacity to add value and to further develop Gambian Football,” Sohna said.

“My sincere thanks, appreciation and indebtedness to my family, friends, team mates, coaches and all administrators who made it possible for me to acquire this lifetime achievement.

“The official ceremony of my retirement will be held a day after The Gambia takes on Chad in the preliminary qualifier of AFCON 2023 here in March.”

Sohna played in The Gambia U-17 team that won the Africa U-17 championship in 2005 and also played for the U-20 team.

He described playing for the country as “immense pleasure and great elation to be part of The Gambia’s first ever AFCON team subsequent to a historic qualification for the first time in the annals of Gambian football.”
