The Gambia’s Scorplings continued their impressive start to the WAFU Zone A U-17 tournament with a 3–1 victory over Mauritania at Stade Lat Dior in Thiès.

Alieu Saine opened the scoring for The Gambia, giving the Scorplings an early advantage with his second goal of the tournament after his brace against Sierra Leone.

Mauritania responded three minutes into the second half when Mohamden M’Bareck produced a stunning 35-yard strike to level the game at 1–1.

The Scorplings regained the lead in the 78th minute through Omar Badjie, who received a defence-splitting pass from right-back Ousman Tamba before calmly finding the back of the net.

The Gambia sealed the victory deep into stoppage time. In the 90+4th minute, Badjie dazzled past his marker before finding Ebrima Kanyi, who delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Muhammed Tamba.

Tamba made no mistake with the finish to complete the 3–1 victory.

The result gives The Gambia six points from two matches, following their opening 4–1 win over Sierra Leone.

The Scorplings will face hosts Senegal on September 13th in their final Group A fixture, with a place in the next stage at stake.
