Seedy Njie, the deputy speaker of the National Assembly and a senior member of the ruling National People’s Party, has accused Mayor Talib Bensouda of being “unapproachable”, unlike President Adama Barrow.

Mr. Njie made the comment during a political rally in Kiang, where the ruling National People’s Party and the United Democratic Party will vie for the councillor seat following the passing of the late councillor, who was elected under the UDP ticket.

Talib Bensouda, who is among the senior UDP members, has accused the Barrow government of reckless spending, forcing the country deep into economic hardship. He asked the Kiang electorate to vote for a UDP candidate for the position.

In response, Seedy Njie, who also led the NPP senior delegation, fired back at Mr. Bensouda, stating that, “If you go to Talib Bensouda’s home in Fajara or Pipeline, you will meet guard dogs at the gate and will wait for the next hundred days before you are allowed to enter.

“But the number of people President Barrow has welcomed into his home in Barrow Kunda and at State House over these eight years surpasses ten million people.”
