The Amdalai Border Police have confirmed the interception of Papa Dethialao Thiam, a 49-year-old Senegalese national, found in possession of a pistol and twelve live rounds during routine screening on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.

According to officials, operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) stopped the suspect while he was travelling from Cassamance, transiting through The Gambia en route to Dakar, Senegal. He was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

During questioning, Thiam produced a valid Senegalese firearm licence and claimed to be employed by the Senegalese Ministry of Interior.

Following consultations with Senegalese authorities and in line with existing security cooperation between the Gambia Police Force and the Senegalese National Police, the suspect was handed over to Senegalese officials for further action.

In a statement, the Gambia Police Force reaffirmed that national security remains a top priority, assuring the public of its commitment to maintaining safety at the country’s borders.
