The community of Serekunda has lodged an injunction at the High Court over the alleged illegal sale of part of Gaddafi mosque.
The community has accused a former Supersoniz employee, one Marenah, of allegedly selling part of the land to the microfinance bank.
This portion was previously used for horticultural training by the community and its neighbours.
In 2002, former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi offered to build a mosque for the community. After the construction, part of the land was allocated to Mr Marenah and his brother for accommodation.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Pa Modou Jobe, said: “we have lodged a complaint to the court, and we will file an injunction to ensure they are stopped from building. And we will make sure the land belongs to the community.”
He vowed that they will make sure that the community regains its rightful property through the courts.
“The land belongs to the community of Serekunda. I don’t know how he got the title deeds until he was able to sell this portion. Because this land belongs to the community of Serekunda,” he added.
Another resident of the community, Mr Raymond expressed their determination to fight for the land.
“We will not let this matter slide, even if it requires death. But we will make sure we don’t lose this mosque,” he said.
