Residents in Serekunda have complained about frequent power cuts in the area.

The blackouts have hit businesses the hardest that need electricity to trade as they are now force to shutdown when there is outage.

“We don’t have no power here since last night and we don’t just know the reasons. No one has said anything to us,” a business owner who preferred anonymity told Gambiana.

Another said the situation is getting out of hands and call on the authorities to address this issue.

The Gambia is now known for its erratic electricity problem that has been ongoing for decades despite several attempts to deal with it.

Recent intervention such as Turkey’s mobile power supply ship Karpowership has done little to solve the problem.

President Adama Barrow promised at his second inauguration address that he would deal with the country’s rampant electricity challenges.

He bragged of better electricity under his government than the brutal 22-year rule of exiled former president Yahya Jammeh.

Last months, local newspapers could not be published due to power cuts.

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) is yet to issue a statement on the frequent power cuts.
