Kanifing Magistrate Court has convicted seven commercial drivers for carrying passengers without face mask.

The drivers were arrested on Wednesday by the Gambia Police Mobile Traffic Department.

“The Mobile Traffic Department has arrainged 7 drivers at the Kanifing Magistrate Court for carrying passengers without facemask. They were sentence to a fine of D1000 each,” police said.

The clampdown on face mask violators comes as the country deals with a full blown coronavirus crisis. A 21 days nationwide curfew has been imposed. 

At least 16 people have died and nearly a thousand people have been infected by the virus.
