
Seven people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a tragic road traffic accident at YBK in the Central River Region (CRR), police have announced.

According to the Gambia Police Force, the accident occurred at around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, when a commercial van carrying 26 passengers and goods from the Kombos to Guinea-Conakry collided with a stationary fuel tanker.
Police said seven passengers lost their lives in the crash, while a number of others sustained injuries and were rushed to Bansang Hospital for treatment.

Four of the injured were later transferred to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul for specialised medical care.
Officers visited the scene shortly after the incident, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
The Gambia Police Force expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The Force also renewed its call for greater caution on the roads, urging motorists to comply with traffic regulations and remain vigilant at all times to help prevent avoidable tragedies.
