Sibanor United have been crowned champions of the West Coast Regional Football Association (WCRFA) Third Division League following a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Kunkujang Friends at the Box Bar Mini Stadium.

The much-anticipated final saw Kunkujang take the lead in the 15th minute through Ba Karamo Drammeh. Sibanor United nearly equalised soon after when Francis Gomez’s brilliant free kick struck the woodwork.

In the second half, Sibanor came alive. Gomez eventually leveled the match in the 61st minute after a slick one-two with Modou Saidy. The midfielder celebrated with a touching tribute to Pa Modou Tamba, revealing a welcoming message under his jersey.

The comeback was completed in the 83rd minute when Modou Saidy again turned provider, delivering a low cross from the byline that winger Sainey Nyassi converted with confidence to seal the win.

At full time, Sibanor United were presented with a giant trophy, gold medals, and a cash prize of D100,000, recognizing their efforts as regional champions. Kunkujang Friends, the runners-up, received silver medals and a consolation prize of D80,000.

With this victory, Sibanor United now advance to the GFF Second Division Promotional Play-Off, where they will compete for a coveted spot in The Gambia’s national second tier league.
