Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara will be buried on Thursday at the National Assembly complex in Banjul after a State Funeral.

The lying state for the former president will take place at National Assembly.

The State Funeral will commence at the King Fahd Mosque with Islamic prayers before a procession to the National Assembly.

Mariam Denton, speaker of the National Assembly will preside over the State Funeral.

Speakers at the ceremony include Omar A Jallow, former cabinet minister in the Jawara regime, Dr Lamin Marenah, representing the late president’s family, Sidia Jatta, National Assembly member for Wuli Constituency, Chief Justice Hassan Jallow and President Adama Barrow.

The police will mount a Guard of Honour and act as pall bearers as the late president is taken to the King Fahd for an Islamic Funeral prayers before his burial at the National Assembly complex with 21 gun salute.

The former president of The Gambia died on Tuesday afternoon at his residence in Fajara aged 95. He was the first president of The Gambia and ruled for 30 years until his overthrow in 1994.
