Madi Ceesay, the United Democratic Party National Assembly member for Serrekunda West constituency, has dismissed claim that President Adama Barrow sponsored the election campaign of the UDP lawmakers who won their seats in 2017.

“President Barrow didn’t help us [United Democratic Party] with nothing during the last parliamentary elections because at that time in 2017 President Barrow was an independent candidate,” Mr Ceesay said.

“Yes, it is true, he came from United Democratic Party but his position at that time he cannot support us,” he added.

He continued: “Truly my party, United Democratic Party, supported us and the late Lamin Dibba supported me with D150,000 to cover my campaign expenses and that was what was done to all other United Democratic Party National Assembly candidates. So, I don’t know how he helped us.”

“By the grace of God, if I am here till April and finds me well and the party allows me to stand under its ticket I will contest unless if the party selects someone else.

“And even if someone else is selected, I will support that person with my utmost best to ensure he or she wins the parliamentary seat for Serrekunda West,” Mr Ceesay added.
