The minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Badjie has failed to honour his promise of repaying wife’s travel allowance on Monday (22 August).

Gambiana has learned that the minister is yet to make the repayment despite pledging to do so.

Last week, Mr Badjie pledged to repay nearly £3,000 per diem paid to his wife for an official government visit to the UK and Turkey.

He is facing mounting pressure from the public who deemed the payment as illegal as the wife is not a government official.

Team Baks mobiliser and spokesperson Matarr Saine told Gambiana last Sunday that Mr Badjie promised to repay the money officially on Monday (22 August).

Our reporter contacted the ministry of Youth and Sports today (23 August) to find out about the per diem repayment but no one was available to confirm the payment has taken place.

Gambiana contacted Mr Saine on Tuesday over the minister’s repayment but could not be reached by telephone. His phone kept ringing without response.

Bakary Badjie was also contacted for comment but his telephone kept ringing without response.
