
A reporter with Star TV, Mbaye Corr, has died after suffering a sudden medical emergency, the station has announced.
In a statement, the media house said the journalist had reported to work as usual and was on assignment when he suddenly fell ill and passed away later that afternoon.
“Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return,” the statement read, expressing shock and deep sorrow over his passing.
Corr was widely known as the presenter of Monday Night Sports, where he built a reputation as a passionate and committed sports journalist.
Colleagues described him as professional, humble and respectful, noting his dedication to his work and his kindness to those around him.
“He was deeply passionate about journalism and sports, and he approached his work with immense professionalism and commitment,” the statement added.
Tributes have since poured in from journalists and members of the media fraternity across The Gambia, many describing his death as a significant loss to the industry.
Several colleagues remembered him as a hardworking and dedicated reporter who contributed meaningfully to sports journalism in the country.
Prayers have also been offered for his soul, with many asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
His passing has left a void within the newsroom and among the wider media community, where he was regarded not only as a colleague but also as a friend.
